Support for New Muslims

Reverts Corner

A Journey of Transformation

"Becoming Muslim feels like coming home, returning to a more whole and connected state. Maybe that is why new Muslims are called reverts rather than converts.

I took Shahada about a year ago, during a very difficult time in my life. Being embraced in the fold of Islam has given me strength I've never known, like a stream that runs into a waterfall. Having the responsibility and honor of praying five times a day, of saying thank you to Allah swt and forgive me, and greeting the angels, has shifted the way I see and engage with the world.

Before I didn't speak a word of Arabic, but with Shereen, my Quran teacher, I have now memorized almost 10 surahs! Alhamdulillah. I am also deepening my understanding of all aspects of Islam with the Islamic Studies textbook (the most recent chapter was on zakat) and am also learning Quranic Arabic.

Islam is an incredibly beautiful religion and I thank Allah swt for guiding me to it, and providing me with the support of everyone at Q4e.

If you feel a call to revert, or to learn more about Islam and the Qur'an, I couldn't recommend Q4e more."

High-Level Program Guide

Allahu Akbar! Congratulations on embracing Islam and your thoughts of becoming a Muslim! While this can be a very stressful time, remember Allah is with you. So, seek his help through patience and prayer! Q4e Institute is here to support you in your journey! This guide is designed to give an overview on the things you will be learning at Q4e, during your time in the Q4e program in your new journey as a Muslim. It provides a high-level overview of the essential practices, beliefs, and resources to support you in your spiritual growth and integration into the Muslim community.

1. Understanding the Core Beliefs of Islam

Shahadah (Declaration of Faith):

"La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah"

The foundation of Islam is the declaration that there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad (Peace be upon him) is His Messenger. This affirms one's belief in the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him).

If you have not done your Shahada, we are here to help you through that process.

Six Articles of Faith:

  • Belief in Allah (God)
  • Belief in Angels
  • Belief in Revealed Books
  • Belief in Prophets
  • Belief in Day of Judgment
  • Belief in Divine Decree (Qadr)

2. Learning the Five Pillars of Islam These are the foundational acts of worship that every Muslim is required to fulfill:

1. Shahadah

Declaration of faith - Testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad ﷺ is His messenger.

2. Salah

Five daily prayers at specific times, connecting with Allah through physical and spiritual worship.

3. Zakat

Annual charity of 2.5% of saved wealth to help those in need (when meeting financial requirements).

4. Sawm

Fasting during Ramadan from dawn to sunset, practicing self-discipline and God-consciousness.

5. Hajj

Pilgrimage to Mecca once in lifetime for those physically and financially able.

Start with an English translation to understand its message. Gradually learn to read it in Arabic.

Tafsir (Explanation)

  • • Use resources like prayer apps or videos to guide you.
