It is a story of reverting to Islam. Although Q4e was established in 2022, the actual story started a long before that.

Our Journey

The Founding Story

By the permission of Allah, Q4e institute was founded by brother Shafiq Islam with the help of a few other brothers and sisters and donors from the community. Brother Shafiq Islam was born in Bangladesh and came to the United States to do his undergraduate degree in 1996. Although he was raised in a very pious family, with the struggles of student life in the United States, he forgot to read the Qur'an or everything else of Islam he learned back home.

In 2003 brother Shafiq moved to Canada. Brother Shafiq and sister Sunjida got married in 2006. Sister Sunjida went through several miscarriages and the couple were childless for a long time. Those were the most difficult times the couple spent in their life. However, they continuously made dua to Allah and didn't lose hope in the mercy of Allah. In the 9th year of their marriage, in 2015, Allah blessed them with a beautiful daughter Samara. During this difficult journey, they understood the importance of dua and being steadfast on Islam. The couple decided to learn more about Islam and dedicate their time to serve Islam and the surrounding community.

In May of 2016, brother Shafiq's father Ilias Miah started living with them. He used to read the Qur'an at home for 3-4 hours every day. He would finish the entire Qur'an 2/3 times in the month of Ramadan. Brother Shafiq felt that this period was the most peaceful time in his life. In October 2022, Samara started her journey with the Quran by learning the Arabic alphabet. Brother Shafiq felt an urge to be a good parent and share the same journey with Samara. He also started to learn the Quran with his first teacher Shaikh Abubakr and later with Shaikh Ahmed.

As the couple was involved in different community works, they realized that there is a need for a structured Quran program in the community. So, they decided to dedicate their time to build an institute where kids and adults can learn Quran and Islam in a safe environment. Brother Shafiq discussed the idea of the institute with brother Musabbir Hasan and Masud Khan, and both understood the need and potential of such an institute. Later brother Mainul Bhuiyan joined the great cause. Hence, Q4e was formed as a nonprofit organization where brother Shafiq took the role of CEO and president. Others became the valuable members of the board where brother Musabbir agreed to be the chair of the board.

One of the biggest help Allah sent to this program was brother Asad Imam who brother Shafiq met at a local event when brother Asad came to Edmonton from Calgary. Being highly impressed by his devotion and talent, brother Shafiq asked him to join as the Director of Academic Affairs and he agreed to take on the role. He has been nothing, but God sent. May Allah reward brother Asad and his family for the sacrifices they made!

Q4e started its operation in Spring 2023. Samara became the first student of Q4e. Brother shafiq's teachers joined as a permanent teacher of Q4e along with two other teachers Ustada Shayma and Ustada Rokia. Later Radwan joined Q4e as the CFO and Treasurer in early 2024. Radwan has been nothing but exceptional in keeping the finance of Q4e straight.

It is worth mentioning that Q4e is operating as a non-profit organization, and it is run by some dedicated volunteers. All of them are giving their time and effort for the sake of Allah without hoping for any fame or money in this Dunya. Please make dua for them to make their intentions pure and give barakah to their family and the program.

Although the story of Q4e seemed to stem from the story of a family, truly it is more than that. Every person goes through difficulties in his/her life. However, the keys to overcoming difficulties are showing gratitude to Allah and making dua to him. Allah not only blessed them in their personal lives but also brought a few people together to serve the community. We should always remember that Allah guides whomever he wants. We should not forget to make dua for ourselves and our future generation. The duas can do miracles as it did for so many believers before us and as it will do for many believers after us. Brother Shafiq attributes all goods in his life to the mercy of the Almighty and dua of his parents! So, keep making dua for your next generation!! Don't let a day go by without it!
